100th Day And Super Math Fun

Who doesn't love the 100th day of school?!  In fact, I might love it a little too much.  I began thinking about my 100th day of school shirt a while ago.  Of course, I also thought about my boys shirts.  I came up with these designs.
My co-worker's daughter sporting her 100th day shirt with the design I created using my Silhouette.

Here are my boys. I Love, love how their shirts turned out!
And speaking of 100th day, it's time to share a few pictures of how we celebrated it in my class. Here are a few pictures of my students with their 100 things.
100 marshmallows

100 beans.  He is also wearing his rock star necklace with 100 beads.

And . . . Who doesn't love 100 pieces of candy for the 100th day?

100 googly eyes

100 seashells, and have I mentioned how many snow days we have had?  6, not to mention the delays. So we fell in love with the seashells real quick!

How about 100 Legos?

100 Marbles

He can read a lot more than 100 words!

100 corn kernals

100 pennies
We celebrated the day using The Bubbly Blonde's
He looks like he is rocking the 100th day!
We really rocked out the 100th day using her tpt unit.

And is it just me or does it feel like there is always some way to have fun?  We had a Souper time the Friday before the Super Bowl. Our school uses that day to bring in soup to donate to our local food pantry.

Super job bringing a can of soup!

We reviewed our doubles that day using a football.

And how about some football addition?  I think so!

I have also been busy getting ready for my little guys Lego birthday party and watching my daughter cheer. Here are a few pictures. Enjoy them and have a great day.

I used this mason jar and filled it with Legos as an easy and cheap decoration.

My lovely daughter put a Lego fork holder together.

I baked brownies, used food coloring to white icing, added four m&m's and that was his birthday "cake."

Everyone that came to his party signed his birthday card.

Another lego decoration for the tables.  I made one in red, green, and blue.

We made a lego creation station.

Each of his little friends had this at their seat waiting for them.

Having fun creating at the party.
And of course we made lego popcorn holders.

Here's a little family picture. I made my two little guys lego shirts using my silhouette.  The birthday boy had an eight in his lego guy on his shirt.

Back & Better

We are finally back from Christmas break, followed by three consecutive snow days . . . Just saying.  I didn't leave my house for four straight days.  I don't think I have ever done that before. Even when I had four kids under seven years old!  I am very thankful that some of my college friends had lunch with  me right before the polar vortex came. Boy was it cold. The temperature was negative 42 with the wind chill!!  Now that's cold!  I have never experienced weather like that.   Well since I had a "little" bit of extra time I made my 100 days of school shirt.  My wonderful husband bought me a Silhouette  Portrait for Christmas.  It is very easy to use, and I love it!

I began making my shirt by finding an apple design from the Silhouette store.  Afterwards I typed my wording. After you are done adding your design you need to mirror the image.  You can do this by right clicking on the image and chose flip horizontally.

After the freezer paper is cut, take it and place it where you want the design to be on your clothing.  My freezer paper was a little cured up on the edges, so I placed my tea cups on the edges to hold the paper down.

After you have your freezer paper on the shirt, turn your iron on to the heat setting right below the cotton setting.  After the iron is warmed, take it and gently iron the freezer paper.  Please note, the freezer paper will attach to the shirt very quickly.  Just pass over the design quickly.  Don't keep the iron on the freezer paper too long.

After you are done ironing, put something inside the shirt that will prevent the fabric paint to bleed to the backside of your shirt.  I put lots of copy paper in the middle of my shirt.  Then paint your design.  I used a sponge to paint mine, but I'm sure a paint brush will work just fine.  Let the paint dry before you remove the freezer paper.  I let it dry for a couple of hours.
And here is the final product! I'm so excited about wearing my new shirt on the 100th day!
I was very happy to be back to school this week.  Here are a couple of pictures of our two days back to school.

Working on New Year's Writing.
Reading during the Daily Five.
Of course we had to read Snow Day, by Lester Laminack.  My favorite snow book.
Here's a picture of one of our New Year's writing.  We added a little party hat to the top of our writing.
And of course here is a picture of our bulletin board.

As we come back to school from break we are preparing to take our MClass test.  I created this mini help to help expose my students to a few nonsense words before they take their test.  You can click on the title if you want to purchase it on tpt.

Christmas

I hope everyone had an amazing Christmas party!  I know I look forward to it every year as a teacher and parent.  This year we had an elf themed party in my classroom.  We had three stations at our Christmas party.  We made elf hats and collars, Christmas tree treats, and an adorable ornament.
Who doesn't love the combination of pajama & Christmas party day?  These little guys are mine.  They are ready in their matching Mario pj's and robes.
Making elf hats & collars.
Yup they are cool in their hats!
Here is a picture of the front of their ornament.  The ornament is a piece of wood pained white, then we used modge podge to glue christmas paper, school pictures, and student names.
Here is a view of the back of the ornament.  It is a Christmas wish list for 2013.  The top of the ornament has Christmas ribbon and a cute little bell.  They turned out really cute and will last for a long time to come.
Decorating Christmas trees with icing and goodies.

To end the party Santa Claus stopped by and asked each student what they wanted for Christmas.
I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas this year.  May you be blessed in the coming year.  I know I have been blessed with an amazing family, co-workers, friends, and God.

Pete the Cat

Who doesn't love some Pete the Cat?  I know the kindergarteners and teachers at our school certainly do! The kindergarteners in our school had an AMAZING literacy night.  They read-sang a few of his books. And boy did we have fun with my little kindergarten guy!

This is one of our kindergarten teachers.  She rocked the microphone!
The little guy with a tie is my baby.  He was so stinking adorable!
Here's a pic of the k teachers talking about the standards the Pete the Cat books cover.  Pete was also standing there with his groovy buttons.
And here is my little guy with his teacher at the end of the program.

Binder Love

Binder Love

We love, love, love our binders in first grade! I wanted to share some pictures of our binders, as well as share ideas on how we use them.

When you open the binder I have stickers with the hundreds number chart, manuscript alphabet, as well as a class list.  Inside the pencil pouch is a place to keep pencils, erasers, as well as a communication spot between the teacher and parents.  We also use it as a place to send any lunch money, permission slips, etc.
The first page is where you will find our classroom newsletter.  The newsletter stays here all the time.  It can be used as a reference throughout the week.  My newsletter is available on tpt if you are interested.
The next page has a list of Fry's first 100 words.  We use these words in first grade as our word wall words for the year.  Later in the year we will begin spelling words in addition to our word wall words.
The next page contains flashcards with word wall words.  I put them inside baseball card holders.  The word wall words get changed throughout the year by one of my amazing volunteers!
The following pages contain a morning work section.  It has various pages that contain math problems that are tied to first grade common core.
Our school has a Thursday Folder.  It is a communication folder that goes home on Thursdays.  It holds the students weekly work, as well as any other fliers that need to go home from the school or our community.
Last, but not least is a homework folder.  The sent home a packet of weekly homework.  It goes home on Thursday, and students have a week to return their homework.

Our binders received a facelift a couple of weeks ago.  I created a new cover page as well as a name spot for the spine of their binder.  I don't have a picture of that, but I do have a link to it on tpt.  My product has many of these goodies that you saw on the pictures.  I have my students' desk in groups.  Beside each group is a small book shelf.  This is where each group keeps their binders everyday.  It is a perfect spot to house their binders.  Below is a link, or you can click on the right side under the tpt section.
